Sky Over Trees

The famous Siberian Elms of Winnipeg are about to burst into leaf.
These trees have tall, twisted skeletons that throw
dramatic shade onto the winter landscape
and create bountiful greenery in the summer
while withstanding significant extremes in climate.

An unanticipated snow fall inspires a walk through downtown in
search of images for my mother who celebrates her 85th year today.
She was born in rural Manitoba and never actually lived in Winnipeg
but retains fond memories of the place.

weekend festivals is now submerged under its fast, murky waters.

Prairie Butterfly

Returning wildlife of the native habitat show up daily in my backyard.
This is a Milbert's Tortoiseshell butterfly of the brush-footed variety
(Family Nymphalidae) which includes the Monarch.
It is one of many species migrating back to Manitoba including the
Canada Goose and the Ring Billed Gull.
