Stuff that happened on the ferry from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay, two weeks ago on what was, in hindsight, the last great weekend of the summer includes an impromptu tango and figurehead display by talented passengers.

Inside Out

No. 8761 - 11 Sep 2011 - 10:03:57 * No. 8766 - 11 Sep 2011 - 10:04:51

Although it is an invasive, non-native species, the Himalayan blackberry is mostly tolerated in these parts for the pounds of free, tasty fruit it produces. My brother's wife and I share a passion for 1950's Fire King Ware in this particular green
and for delicious, free blackberries.
While visiting them on the Sunshine Coast
(and taking pictures of everything)
she suggested I experiment with the bowl of fruit in the sunlight.
Voila!

"Now sit right back and I'll tell you a tale ..."
oops wrong seafaring TV show.
This is Gibsons Landing, a charming seaside town on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia and former film location of that international icon of Canadian television, The Beachcombers. The cast and crew are long gone but Molly's Reach lives on as a real restaurant and the village is chock a block with artists, galleries, award-winning gardens,
friendly locals and good food.

Langdale, BC on the north side of Howe Sound, on the southeast coast of the Sechelt Peninsula is the start of the final leg of he world's longest highway (the Pan-American or Highway 101). It begins in Southern Chile, stretching to its final destination at Lund which is 139 km up the Sunshine Coast from the BC Ferry terminal.
It is only 60 minutes from downtown Vancouver but the nighttime quiet is remarkable to a city girl like myself. The only way to get to the coast is by boat, insuring a small town lifestyle and atmosphere, especially in the off-season.

No Dogs (In The Playground)

No. 8404 - 08 Sept 2011 - 19:27:14

Renovations to Grandview Park are almost complete. The area around the cenotaph has been opened up for people to congregate and the enlarged playground has been moved downhill - closer to the daycare and school zones of Britannia Community Centre. The new public washrooms hut is charming but the doors face out to Commercial Drive
(I find this as odd as an apartment or house design with a
WC at the front entrance way).
The renewed park space is open, clean, attractive and mostly unchanged from its original design and purpose.

Displays of gladioli and dahlias signify summer's last blast of colour and variety in the garden. These flowers grace the Love farmhouse at Burnaby Village Museum
which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Alongside heritage buildings and gardens are the BC Electric Railway exhibit and the CW Parker Carousel both of which are a century old.
These former glories of technology are highly evolved and therefore beautiful and rare.
