A Splendid Melancoly
Nos. 8194 to 8231 - 01 Sept 2011 - 15:41:22 to 15:46:47
Displays of gladioli and dahlias signify summer's last blast of colour and variety in the garden. These flowers grace the Love farmhouse at Burnaby Village Museum
which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Alongside heritage buildings and gardens are the BC Electric Railway exhibit and the CW Parker Carousel both of which are a century old.
These former glories of technology are highly evolved and therefore beautiful and rare.

Wet Pavement
Gastown, Vancouver
When people speak of the weather, most usually, it is to complain about an aspect of everyday life over which they have absolutely no control. It is safe territory for a good whinge especially for those of a normally moderate temperament.
The Lower Mainland of British Columbia has a gloomy winter environment of deeply overcast skies, consistent rainfall, and the 95% humidity of a dank, hypothermic nature. It is difficult to notice that it is more likely the loss of light, enclosing and shortening the days, which saddens the inhabitants. The arrival of the autumn equinox in this misty land of complainers can be more disconcerting than the weather itself.
My forecast tells me I will continue to go outside and seek what light there is available in order to exercise the moment and record it for later enjoyment.

YWCA Rooftop Food Garden
Gastown, Vancouver
Five storeys above the streets of corporate Vancouver grows a garden that feeds a community. During a recent potluck lunch, with the ladies and gentleman of the finest aqua-fit class in the city, I was able to see how much is possible with vision, cooperation, and hard work. For myself, the pleasure in growing masses of scarlet runner vines, comes with the eating of the fresh picked, steamed, buttered, and seasoned beans; a memory from childhood summers in my mother's kitchen garden.
