Garden Culture
Architecture, painting, horticulture, geology, wildlife, leak windows, and penjing at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden.
Gala Gala Fundraiser
12 August 2010 - Chinatown 125
Gastown, Vancouver
The formation of Chinatown predates the incorporation of the City of Vancouver by one year. In those days the waters of False Creek lapped at the southern edge of Pender Street. We have within our community the potential to create a great Eurasian city in North America.
The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden was proclaimed a cultural icon by the international press during the recent Vancouver Olympic Winter Games; it is an integral part of the cultural life of Vancouver. The cost of membership is reasonable and every visit reveals new treasures and fresh contemplation.

The intensive breeding and rearing of poultry for the factory production of pale-yolked eggs and flesh to be sold smothered in plastic on a bed of Styrofoam is distasteful. Time, perhaps, to march to a new drummer (less consumption and more respect).

Here is a man with a mission; a downtown character who is recognized for the ball he has tucked under his arm at all times (except when he has a clear shot at a kick down an empty stretch and somewhere in my files is a picture of him doing such a thing at 05:00 on a snow-covered Hastings Street). He practices pride of place on his daily tours of the neighbourhood; picking up every bit of trash he sees in his path and stopping only for a cigarette or to do a spot of calisthenics with the aid of his football. He is a fine example of a person making the best of a tricky situation while maintaining his humanity. Somebody should validate him for his effort but this is 2010 and the system has been thoroughly campbellized.

The break down of digital equipment has put Dime Chronicle on hiatus for a few days. I have been offered a new lease on technology but these things take time. In the meantime I catch as catch can and try to borrow computer time from helpful souls (thanks Mom). I was able to save drafts from the last few days and will endeavour to post them this week.
