Gastown, Vancouver
While some people come to the Ovaltine Cafe for a white bread, american-slice grilled cheese sandwich with a side of hashed browns for $3.50 and others come to get a picture of the most photographed neon sign in town, I lurk in the alley and ponder the mystery of the painted phone number.

The restaurant's number is listed in my archive copy of the 1962 Vancouver Telephone Directory (B.C. TEL) as MU(tual) 5-7021 but the number painted on the wall lacks a numeral and uses the non-existent exchange MA(rine). What looks and sounds real is as fake as processed cheese. Yum!
