Greetings from the gang at the Gathering Place. We hear good things about you and wish you continued and contemplative success in the land where trees are planted. Anyfaraway, it is taking over three hours to accomplish this posting. Funny thing is, every time some new computer comes on-line, robbie the robot takes a micro bit longer to be recognized in-line. But for the stolen chip you replaced I would not even be able to do this and of course it was you, bloG Adam, who got me a place in line at all. Thank you for your expertise and generosity, given in the development of Dime Chronicle, on 01 Jan 2010. Anydinnerisonyou, we look forward to your return to the GP Pottery Club with keen anticipation. Regards.

One more image from last summer at the seashore because this morning the air in my downtown studio does not smell of exhaust fumes or breakfast cooking at the Carnegie. The breeze blowing in my window smells of the ocean* seaweed, sand, and salty goodness. Weather reports indicate that summer is arriving tomorrow.
* Greetings to my friend Yas. Saturday's little red bucket is certainly headed west, across the Pacific Ocean, to Japan. Thank you and keep watching the horizon.

Little Red Bucket
On Spanish Banks a little red bucket is left overnight and caught in the liminality of the tidal flat. It remains unclaimed throughout the day until the returning tide takes it out to sea for upcoming adventures. Fact.

Nation Day
Gastown, Vancouver
No. 4573 was taken before the last minute Olympic clean-up at Abbott and Hastings Streets. There is some sort of emo boutique there now. The images below represent the neighbourhood on a good day (Friday 12 Feb 2010) as it waited nervously for the run-by of the the Olympic Torch which was being held back in protest four blocks west. Eventually it came east, up Hastings Street past red tent gentlemen, Royal Bank employees, and plenty of Canadians and neutral on-lookers. An amusing video of the rout at Victory Square was shown at VIVO the next night although the protest did little to slow the parade of saggy jogging suits and their police escort meandering through The Town.

I break my own dogma 05 rule - always chronological, never retouched - by switching images because sometimes art trumps document. With only 1/10 of a second between these two and a missing piece, No. 5172, I have chosen to rearrange them, from left to right, as they appear on the landscape.
Downtown and Grandview look positively Florentine in this light.

Today is the birthday of a woman who has positively impacted my life. She, along with a team of practitioners of the highest professional calibre, has assisted me to transform my 20 year history of illness, due to an unfortunate accident, forward into wellness. The best thing about a paradigm shift is the momentum it gives one to challenge and accomplish other shifts and rearrangements.
Click on the image and look into the middle where four small windows are set in a golden brick background; the two on the right are the studio from which I currently take 90% of my pictures.

I snapped this shot while waiting for an appointment with the person of the day. She is a fellow mid-Boomer; born in the Year of the Horse (like me and Jackie Chan). Happy birthday Dr, Donna. Regards.

So ends the week of music at St. James' Anglican. The Sacred & Sassy event was a success and raised money for the eventual completion of the choir gallery renovation. Those souls who travel the city, visiting churches on Sunday mornings, in search of music and architecture should know that the choir is on summer break until September.
The images chosen for this post were taken at a recent church picnic at Portside Park and highlight the particular importance of music to this parish. The reason children can pull out violins at a picnic is due to the Saint James Music Academy which continues to offer music education in the neighbourhood. The music mission contributes to the over-all health and happiness of children as well as reminding the greater community that families live downtown.

Organist
Gastown, Vancouver
On the other side of the glass is an empty church filled with the timbre of a pipe organ playing divinely complicated music courtesy of, Assistant Organist, Bruce McKenzie.
During our upcoming concert on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 7:30 pm, we will sing from the front of the church like most choirs although normally we sit high up in the gallery behind the congregation and in front of the organist back up to the windows which are featured in the previous post. The event is, in fact, a benefit to raise money for the choir gallery's completion. The dessert, cabaret, and silent auction portion of the program will be in the Bishop's Hall adjoining.

Unstained Glass
Gastown, Vancouver
Before I joined the choir at St. James' Anglican I took pictures of the building for its value as an architectural peculiarity and a neighbourhood artifact. One year later I would sit in the choir gallery, which lurks behind the window peaks, and look back out at Vancouver (the Provincial Law Courts to be precise). The image is a stranger to me now that I know what is behind the concrete and leaded glass; I feel differently looking back from the inside.

Soprano
Gastown, Vancouver
This week I shall shamelessly flog the upcoming concert SACRED & SASSY - from the church to the cabaret - 7:30 pm, Friday, June 25, 2010 at St. James' Anglican Church, 303 Cordova Street, Vancouver (604-685-2532).
This week I shall shamelessly flog the upcoming concert SACRED & SASSY - from the church to the cabaret - 7:30 pm, Friday, June 25, 2010 at St. James' Anglican Church, 303 Cordova Street, Vancouver (604-685-2532).
The soprano pictured above is our own Ruth Greenaway-Robbins. If you know me and have indicated that you will attend this event you have no better reason than to come hear one of the professional singers who anchor and elaborate our little group into something, sometimes profound. I, like Ruth, have been transformed by music.
The High Mass Choir of St. James' Anglican Church presents favourite works from its sacred repertoire, along with an assortment of lighter fare.
Dessert and a silent auction will round out an entertaining evening in support of the choir gallery project at St. James.
Tickets: $15 adults / $12 seniors / $10 students available from choir members or at the door.
Come for the music, meet the people.
