Once upon a time I had a very cool and well-paid job in New York City. I was a property manager and special event consultant for landmark buildings in the SoHo district of Manhattan. Additionally, I started up a film and photo business, handled marketing and advertising, assisted in planning and answered directly to the owners of the business/property. I only mention all of this because since I returned to Vancouver, almost 20 years ago, I cannot even get myself arrested (just an expression) and the notion of working for a living wage is merely a fairytale. Dying on disability was never my goal and like most middle-class folk I am terrified of poverty. With good reason. Mea culpa I am an innovator.
